Update on the urban fox.
He's been back a few times this week but mostly at night as the weather has been wet and windy. He comes up the street at about 10.00pm each evening and works his way around the gardens. This morning he brought a girlfriend back at 5.20am! They were making moaning noises on my back lawn and I thought they had captured something to eat but they disappeared quick as lightning when I drew back the curtains to investigate.

I'm hoping they wont mate as I've experienced a garden full of cubs all pooing into the one flower pot!! Not pretty.

I think he's gorgeous! In Australia they are not popular, as an introduced pest, but they are cute. In my part of the world the strange noises at night are koalas :) They have a very loud grunting sound as their mating call.

I'm afraid the foxes are not liked by some proud gardeners here. At the same time as I wrote the poem there was a picture in the local paper which showed a gunman with about 30 dead foxes which he had been commissioned to kill at £60 per night. It was sickening. I did have a problem a few years ago with my garden being used as the local toilet area but it only happened the once and it was easy to stop. Surprisingly they are not a threat to the local cats and I (almost) photographed the two sitting together quite happily on one occasion. I hope your koalas are better treated.
