The Blue Butterfly

When I was a child living in the country in England one of my delights was to catch butterflies and keep them in a jam jar for observation. I spent many hours hunting with my butterfly net and had many a success with most species but the blue butterfly was the one I coveted most because of its distinct colour.I thought of this with shame when we were told that this beautiful thing was now extinct, not because of my work with the net of course but I did feel some way responsible.
Imagine my delight when I saw one in my garden two weeks ago whilst bug hunting with my grandchildren. Not for us the net, just the eyes, but the excitement was still the same. So I am sharing that with you. Only a little thing, nothing exotic, but beautiful in it's colour and not least its survival.

Thank you Narnie for your comment. My garden, as so many this year, has suffered because of the drout but I've learned which plants will and wont survive so next year I will be ready for the hose ban!

A beautiful being. It almost looks as if it were made from paper. It's so sad that a lot of beautiful things are going away, and it seems that there's so little we can do about it.

Thank you Stormmaster. I've planted more butterfly-friendly plants this year and will do again next year but I haven't seen the blue again and I have a wealth of those daisys it was settled on. P'aps he/she didn't find a mate, a sad thought.
